Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 27 January 2025

Date of assessment: 29 January to 27 February 2025. Oakley Lodge Care Home (55) is a residential care home and specialist service that is used by autistic people or people with a learning disability. There were 7 people living at the service at the time of our assessment. We assessed the service against 'Right support, right care, right culture' guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We identified care plans were not always up to date, and safety improvements were needed to the environment. However, the provider acted promptly and addressed all our concerns during our inspection. The service effectively learnt from incidents and accidents. Staff were recruited safely and received appropriate training for their roles. Assessments were carried out before individuals moved in. The service promoted people’s health and wellbeing. The service prioritised individuals' choices and promoted their independence. Regular feedback was sought. The service had a positive culture and approachable management. People lived their lives how they chose to. People had regular opportunities to take part in activities and were supported to keep in contact with their relatives.

People's experience of the service

Updated 27 January 2025

Not all people could speak with us. Where this was the case, we assessed people's experience by speaking with relatives and staff, reviewing people's care records and observation of the care and support they received. People received regular support to be part of their community. People’s needs and preferences were met. People were supported to maintain relationships with their families. People’s cultural and religious needs were met. People had received support from external professionals. Relatives told us staff treated people kindly, they could give feedback and any concerns they had would be addressed by the manager. A relative told us, "Since [Person] has been in Oakley there has been a massive improvement in their health and now [Person] is smiling and happy."
