Our current view of the service

Updated 16 December 2024

We had previously undertaken a comprehensive inspection of St. Mark Dental Surgery on 11 November 2024 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We found the registered provider was not providing safe or well-led care and was in breach of regulations 12, 17, 18 and 19 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. We undertook a follow up, focused assessment on 6 January 2025. This assessment was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to confirm that the practice was now meeting legal requirements. We found the practice had not met all regulations. Whilst some improvements had been made, further improvements were required to fully comply with the regulations. Recruitment procedures now reflected current legislation. We found that systems to support continuous improvement had been improved. Leadership at the practice was not wholly effective which meant that there was still a lack of oversight of the day-to-day management of the service. The practice had some systems in place to manage risks, yet further improvements were required relating to the management of fire safety, sharps safety, the management of hazardous materials, complaints management and the audit of infection prevention and control. The practice is in Cambridge and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice. The practice had 4 treatment rooms. The provider was not complying with all regulations. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the quality statement section of the report. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
