Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 1 August 2024

The assessment started on 2 September 2024 and ended on 13 September 2024. We carried out an unannounced visit to the service on the 10 September 2024. Dimensions The Mulberries is a care home for up to 7 adults with a learning disability. At the time of our assessment, 6 people were living at the service. The assessment was conducted to follow up on concerns identified at the last inspection. The last rating for this service was Requires Improvement (published 24 October 2023). At the last inspection, we identified breaches of Regulations relating to dignity and respect, safe care and treatment and good governance. During this assessment we found improvements had been made. The provider was no longer in breach of any Regulations. However, we identified some areas where improvements were needed. This included safety within the environment and medicines management. The provider took action to address these concerns immediately and sent us evidence of this. We were assured they had made the necessary improvements. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.

People's experience of the service

Updated 1 August 2024

As part of the assessment, we carried out an unannounced visit to the service. We met all 6 people who lived at the service. We spoke with 1 person and a visiting friend. Other people could not use words to communicate. We observed how they were being cared for and supported. Our observations included the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We spoke with all the staff on duty, including the registered manager. We spoke with the relatives of 5 people by telephone to ask for their views and experience. We looked at a range of records, the environment and how medicines were being managed. We received feedback from 1 external professional who worked with the service. We reviewed the information we already held about this -service. No concerns had been identified or raised with us. People were well cared for and supported. They had good relationships with staff. Staff were kind and found ways to help understand people and communicate with them. There were a range of social activities. The staff worked closely with families to make sure people's individual needs and choices were met.
