Requires improvement

Updated 15 March 2024

Church Farm at Rusticus is a ‘care home’ providing personal care and support to people including people living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 86 people with their personal care needs. Church Farm at Rusticus was last rated Good (20 October 2023). The report was published following CQC’s old inspection approach using key lines of enquiry (KLOEs), prompts and ratings characteristics. This assessment has been completed following the Care Quality Commission (CQC) new approach to assessment; Single Assessment Framework (SAF). We carried out our on-site assessment on 21 May 2024. This was an unannounced assessment, which means the provider was not told an assessment was going to be starting beforehand. We assessed a total of 21 quality statements from the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last inspection. Through the assessment of these 21 quality statements we indicated areas of concern and good practice since the last inspection. The provider was very responsive in actioning identified areas for improvement on this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 15 March 2024

Most people we spoke with told us they felt safe living at Church Farm at Rusticus and staff treated them with kindness, compassion, dignity and respect. People told us they were offered choice in relation to nutrition and enjoyed the dining experience within the home. People told us they knew who the registered manager was, and they were visible within the home. People stated they felt able to raise concerns directly to the registered manager and were confident they would assist them to resolve their concerns. We received mixed feedback about responsive person-centred care and needs being met effectively. People and their relatives told us they were not always included in care planning or updates and were not encouraged to give feedback in ways such as relatives meeting, however the provider was able to show various communication methods they used to encourage people and their relative’s involvement. People received a mixed experience in relation to care delivery and medicines management. Some people stated staff knew them well and encouraged them to remain independent, while others told us that although there was enough staff, they struggled with staff continuity especially at weekends which impacted their care.
