Our current view of the service

We carried out this on-site, announced assessment on 25 June 2024. The practice had systems to manage risks, and recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. The provider took immediate action to address one issue identified in the manual cleaning of dental instruments during the decontamination process. Other infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required during the usual opening hours of the practice which was currently 2 days per week. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. The practice is in Coventry and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses, 1 dental therapist, 1 practice manager and 1 receptionist. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the dentist, 1 dental nurse and the receptionist.

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. Their responses and additional patient feedback we reviewed provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Eighteen comments were received. 100% of views expressed by patients were positive. Comments included: “Dr Mulgund has been my dentist for a very long time, and I wouldn't use anyone else. He is so patient, caring and knowledgeable. I have had multiple issues with my teeth over the years and Dr Mulgund has always been amazing, nothing is too much trouble for him and his team”, “Starting from appointments to the aftercare is tremendous, carry on with all the good work”. The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We saw that there was also a suggestions box in the waiting area. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken. An example of this was the television in the waiting room which had been requested by patients. The provider gathered feedback from staff through meetings, and informal discussions. Staff were encouraged to offer suggestions for improvements to the service and said these were listened to and acted on where appropriate. Staff gathered feedback from patients, the public and external partners and demonstrated a commitment to acting on feedback. Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
