Updated 27 December 2024
Date of Assessment: 20, 21 and 23 January 2025 we visited the service. The service is a nursing home providing support to older people adults living with dementia and nursing needs.
This assessment was undertaken due to concerns we had received about the service and our previous inspection findings were the provider was in breach of two legal requirements in safe care and treatment and governance. The service had made some improvements since our last inspection and was no longer in breach of safe care and treatment. However, we found improvements were needed to ensure people’s care plans and associated paperwork were accurate and complete. The provider’s governance arrangements still needed improvement. We found the provider was still in breach of this legal requirement.
We found shortfalls in how infection control procedures were being managed, the management of medicines, people’s care plans and their associated paperwork. Some staff needed mandatory training and additional training to meet people’s individual needs along with an annual appraisal.
Some people and relatives felt there were not always enough staff and we found the same number of staff were allocated even where some people had higher dependency needs.
Staff felt supported by the manager and clinical lead and that it was a nice place to work. Staff gave people choice and there was good partnership working with health and social care professionals and the community. People and relatives spoke positively about the care and support provided from staff. The manager had a good learning culture and wanted to provide good care to people and their families. Positive feedback was provided about the management of the service and there had been improvements following the change to the management of the service. Staff were provided opportunities to develop within their roles and the service had a diverse workforce. We asked the provider for an action plan in response to some of the concerns at this assessment.
