Our view of the service

Date of assessment 24 and 25 February 2025. Oakleigh Lodge is a ‘care home’ providing personal care and support to adults of all ages including those with learning disabilities and sensory impairments. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 2 people with their personal care needs. Oakleigh Lodge was last rated requires improvement (published 3 May 2023).

Since our last inspection improvements had been made and people were supported to have maximum choice and control which now supported their goals and aspirations. Appropriate environmental checks were now being regularly completed, staff were knowledgeable about these checks and there were robust quality monitoring processes in place which ensured compliance and the safety of the environment for people and staff.

Staff were recruited safely with appropriate checks undertaken to ensure suitability and an ongoing training programme supported continuous development of staff knowledge to ensure people were supported safely, effectively and in line with their wishes.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People's experience of this service

We received positive feedback from people. They all told us they felt safe and were happy living at Oakleigh Lodge. They told us they were involved and were part of decision making regarding their care, accessed the community on a regular basis and undertook activities important to them. Where people were not able to give verbal feedback, we observed positive interactions between people and staff. We observed people being offered choices and supported to make decisions using communication and engagement methods that were personalised to people. People responded to staff with smiles and excitement and were included in group and 1- 1 activities.
