Westminster Homecare Limited South West London is a care at home service providing support to people living with a range of needs, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities, people with a learning disability and/or autism and people with mental health needs. At the time of our assessment 215 people were receiving support with their personal care.
We undertook this assessment due to the time since our last assessment. In total we reviewed 7 quality statements. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last assessment.
People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood their duties to protect people from avoidable harm and liaised with the local authority’s safeguarding team if any concerns arose. Staff understood and managed risks well. Clear risk assessments were in place to guide staff about any risks to people’s safety and how to manage and minimise those risks. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Staff completed a regular training programme to ensure their knowledge and skills stayed up to date. Staff’s competency was checked through a programme of spot checks.
People were involved in assessments of their needs. Staff made sure they obtained people’s consent prior to providing support and liaised with those allocated to make best interests decisions when a person did not have the capacity to consent. Staff treated people as individuals. They involved people in their care and respected their decisions and choices. They supported people to remain as independent as possible. Staff were respectful of people’s preferences and beliefs and ensured people’s human rights were upheld.
