Our current view of the service

We carried out our on-site inspection on 12 February 2025, with calls to people and their relatives made off-site on 14 February 2025. This inspection was announced. Caring Hands Nottingham is a care at home service, providing support to adults of all ages, some of whom may live with a physical disability or sensory impairment and people living with dementia. At the time of the inspection, the service was supporting 68 people with their personal care needs. Caring Hands Nottingham Limited was previously inspected on 7 February 2024 and rated Good. We reviewed evidence categories under Safe and Well Led.

The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to fit and proper persons employed. Improvements were found at this inspection and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation.

Managers investigated incidents robustly. There were enough skilled staff with the right qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training & appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff managed medicines well & involved people in planning any changes.

Most people were involved in their assessments, but some people and relatives felt they had not been involved, mainly when changes had occurred. Staff reviewed assessments taking account of people’s communication, personal and health needs. Staff worked with relevant agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving services.

People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. Staff obtained consent from people before providing personal care.

Leaders & staff had a shared vision and culture based on learning & trust. Staff felt they were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given appropriate training and resources.

People's experience of the service

Some people and their relatives felt at times, that communication with external partners could be improved. Some people and their relatives felt the timing of care calls could be improved; although those people that had raised this as a concern had been responded to appropriately by the management team.

People and relatives were positive about the quality of their care and the kindness and empathy shown by staff. They felt safe and the majority of people felt involved in planning and review of their care. People said they received good quality care from skilled and knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. One relative said, “The staff who visit are very good and kind with my family member and I know that my family member wouldn't tolerate it if they weren't.” People and their relatives described how staff treated them kindly and made sure any personal care was done sensitively, preserving their privacy and dignity. People felt able to complain and felt confident action would be taken and improvements would be made. People knew staff and leaders well.
