Independence, choice and control
Systems were being improved to ensure people were informed of their rights and had greater choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. However, these systems needed to be embedded to ensure their effectiveness.
Staff supported people to maintain networks and relationships that were important to them and family and friends were welcomed to visit. However, families felt access to the building was often difficult due to staff availability.
Staff promoted people’s independence and activities were available to support people’s independence, health and wellbeing. However, people and their relatives told us they would like more activities to be provided. One relative told us, “There’s not a lot of activities.” Another relative commented, “There doesn’t seem to be a designated room for activities.” The provider was in the process of reviewing the provision of activities as well as plans for a new area in reception for activities to take place.
