Staff treated people with dignity and respect. Staff knew people well and had good understanding of their individual preferences and communication needs.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

People spoke positively about the staff and told us staff treated them with dignity and respect. One person told us: “Yes, I have no problems whatsoever. “One relative told us: “They[staff] respect my loved one’s dignity. “Staff recognised the importance of treating people with dignity and respect and maintaining their privacy. One staff member told us: “I always make sure the door is closed, and I cover people up when helping with personal care.” Another staff member told us: “There is a lady who does not want a man when she is having a wash. Male staff would wait outside during personal care.” There were appropriate processes and procedures in place to support people’s dignity.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

People were treated as individuals and staff overall knew how to support people’s individual needs. One person told us: “I have worked in care for many years, and I know I’m getting a good care.” One relative told us: “They are very responsive to my loved one’s condition; they know they need to be careful, and they are. “ One staff member told us:” You get to know person and how they like things.” There were appropriate processes and procedures in place to ensure people were treated as individuals.

Independence, choice and control

People told us staff supported their choices and independence. One person told us: “Yes, I have a choice with my food, my drinks, when I go to bed and when I get up."Another person told us: “Yes, I can make my own choices.” One relative told us: “My loved one, knows what they like and what they want, and they make sure everyone else knows that too." One staff member told us: “It is important that people are happy, and I would ask their consent.” There were appropriate processes and procedures in place to support people’s choice and control.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

People’s immediate needs were overall met, and staff had a good understanding of how to meet these needs. There were appropriate processes and procedures to ensure that people’s immediate needs were met.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

Staff had opportunities to provide feedback through regular appraisals and supervisions. However, there was no evidence of staff meetings taking place. However, the provider told us that there were planning on holding staff meetings in the future. The provider also told us they had plan for introducing a staff newsletter as another form of communication with staff.

Staff felt supported in their roles and were complementary about their training. One staff member told us: “I have never worked in home care before and felt more than prepared to do the job.” Another staff member told us:”[Register Manager’s name] checks your well-being. You can always ring the office.” The provider told us staff get reimbursed if they purchase trousers or shoes for work and there was an increase in training courses made available to staff. The provider also provides staff with paid time off for cancer screening and offers gifts to staff during holidays.There were appropriate processes and procedures in place to support staff well-being and enablement.
