Our view of the service
Rastrick Hall and Grange is a residential care home providing care to up to 79 people. The service provides support to older people and people living with dementia. There are 3 floors, which are each split into 2 separate units. At the time of our assessment, there were 55 people using the service. The assessment commenced on 24 September 2024 and was completed on 4 November 2024. This included 4 visits to the service on 24, 26, 27 September 2024 and 11 October 2024. We identified breaches of 2 regulations relating to safe care and treatment and good governance. Risks to people’s health and welfare were not always assessed and managed safely or consistently. Systems and processes for auditing the quality and safety of the service were in place but were not entirely effective in addressing the issues we found at this assessment. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
We received mixed feedback from people and their relatives as to whether they felt the care the service provided was safe or not. Some relatives we spoke with also raised concerns about the standards of cleanliness in the service, and people and their relatives also told us the environment was not always safe. People and their relatives gave mixed feedback about how the service engaged with them. However, work was underway to make sure people, and their relatives, had more involvement in planning their care and support. We received positive feedback about how the service worked with other professionals. However, people and their relatives told us staff were not consistently responsive to people’s needs.
