Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 12 February 2025

We conducted this assessment between 26 February and 12 March 2025. Byfield Court is a residential care home providing personal care and accommodation to 11 people who live with autism and/or have a learning disability. At the time of our assessment 11 people were using the service.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence, and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance. The required improvements had been made at this assessment.

People were safe in the service. Staff had knowledge of abuse and knew the procedures to follow to safeguard people from abuse.

People were supported by staff who had been recruited safely and had the experience, training, and support to be effective in their roles. Risks to people were assessed and managed appropriately. Record of medicines administered to people was not always up to date. The service worked effectively with other health and social care professionals and organisations to meet people’s needs. People were supported with food and drinks that met their nutritional needs.

There was visible leadership in the service. The service held regular meetings with people and staff to gather their views about the care they received. Staff knew how to raise their concerns about the service, and they felt empowered to raise their concerns. There were systems in place to monitor and assess the quality of service provided.
