Independence, choice and control
People were supported to make choices about their care and support where possible. Staff understood people’s individual needs well and how they wished to be supported day to day. Care staff had established positive relationships with the people they supported. A person told us, “Staff are caring.” Staff promoted people’s independence and encouraged them to do as much as possible for themselves.
People had access to the community, and they told us activities were regularly provided in the home by external groups. On the day of the site visit, an activities coordinator supported people with light exercises with music. This activity was inclusive and there was a positive and upbeat atmosphere where people appeared to enjoy themselves. Other activities available to people in the home on a weekly basis were hand massages, spiritual visits, arts and crafts and quizzes.
