Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider met people’s needs. At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s needs were met through good organisation and delivery. We assessed a limited number of quality statements in the caring key question and found areas of good practice. Independence, choice and control

People were supported to maintain their independence, to make choices about their care which was provided to reflect their preferences. Relatives told us their family member was supported to maintain their independence in relation to daily tasks and received support from care workers when required. A relative commented, “Having the carers has enabled [family member] to stay in their home own which has been critical to their mental health. [family member] is very happy at home, and this is directly due to the care and support provided by the two care workers.” Another relative explained that the care workers encouraged and helped their family member to do as much as they could. Relatives also confirmed that care workers supported their family member to make choices when providing care.
