Effective
We looked at one quality statement under the key question of effective. People’s care and support needs had been reviewed since the manger had come into post and new care plans written. These were person centred and gave staff guidance on people’s individual needs. There was a new system in place to robustly assess any new referrals to the home.
This service scored 54 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Assessing needs
The manager told us they had reviewed all care plans since they had come into post. These had been significantly updated and provided information which allowed staff to give person-centred care. The manager said people were fully involved in care planning, where they were able. One person said the manager had sat and talked with them about their care. Staff were positive about the new care plans and said they had been involved with them. One staff member explained they were able to discuss any changes in someone’s care with the manager and had seen care plans updated to reflect changes. Staff felt the manager was very responsive to assessing and monitoring people’s on-going needs.
At the time of the inspection, the local authority had stopped placing due to previous concerns around the quality of care. We looked at this quality statement as we wanted to be assured there were appropriate processes in place to assess any new referrals to the home. There was a new system to assess new referrals needs as well as re-assessing current service user needs. The manager confirmed, this would be the system used for any new referrals to form the basis of people’s care plans. We looked at three care plans which showed detail around what people’s needs were physically, emotionally and spiritually. This will help staff promote and maintain good outcomes for people.
