Equity in access

Staff had carried out a disability access audit and had formulated an action plan to continually improve access for patients.

Staff described the reasonable adjustments they had made to ensure the practice was accessible. For example, there was a hearing induction loop, information sheets were available in large print or alternative formats, and a magnifying glass. The ground floor was wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet. Staff could access translation services for those who required this service.

The practice supported more vulnerable members of society, for example, patients living with dementia or adults and children with a learning disability.

The practice displayed its opening hours and provided information on their website.

The frequency of appointments was agreed between the dentist and the patient, giving due regard to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines.

The practice provided telephone numbers for patients needing emergency dental treatment during the working day and when the practice was not open. At the time of our assessment, patients who needed an urgent appointment were offered one in a timely manner. When the practice was unable to offer an urgent appointment, they worked with partner organisations to support urgent access for patients.
