Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. The feedback from people and their relatives was very positive. Some comments included “I feel relaxed because they are so loving and caring.” A person who lives at the home told us, “Oh the staff can’t do enough for us. They are so respectful and polite. They are very kind and like family.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. For example, faith was important to people who had chosen to live at the home. We observed sermons taking place, along with songs and prayers. One person told us “I don’t remember what is happening every day, but they’ll tell me and help me to join in. I like it because my faith is important, and I came here because my Church said it was nice here and it really is, and I can follow my faith.”

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. For example, we saw some people had their own tea making facilities in their room, along with their own snacks. One person told us how they enjoyed it when the dog visited.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. For example, 1 relative described a situation which was treated with sensitivity, as they did not know how their family member would react. The said “The manager was so kind and made me and [person] tea and hovered in case I needed support.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff we spoke with, without exception, all said they loved working at Northan Counties Eventide Limited and liked the manager. One staff member said “Faith is important here.
