Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. We received unanimously positive feedback from people and relatives about staff and the support provided. People told us how they were supported and enabled to do the things they enjoyed. One person was part of a local sports club and went swimming most weeks, attended their football team’s matches and enjoyed bowling. Another person attended a garden centre daily and liked playing pool and going to the pub. Staff supported people to plan and book holidays. People’s finances were kept securely and managed safely. People had control over how their money was spent. One person said, “I have my own money, and I can spend it on things I want. I am trying to save up for a holiday. I don’t have much money, so I have to be careful, but staff help me with it.” People were supported to keep in touch with family and friends through calls and regular visits. Staff ensured people had everything they needed when they were staying away. One relative said, “Staff look after all his medication. When he does a sleep over at home, it is all clearly labelled for me with timings, so I do have confidence that they get this right.”
