Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This is the first assessment for this service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The service always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. Kindness was clearly evidenced in how care plans were written and staff spoke about people with care and consideration.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The service treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Care plans were well written and there was a clear sense of the person in them. Members of staff were able to demonstrate they knew people and their families which enabled them to deliver individualised care.

Independence, choice and control

The service promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Care plans were person centred. Members of staff told us about how they supported people to remain independent and maintain their choice and control about care.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The service listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort. A family member told us, “[The carers] are kind and very caring and so supportive. Recently, there was an issue which necessitated a 999 call after [the carers] had rung 111 for general medical advice. They stayed with [relative] until the paramedics had arrived and also whilst they were treating [relative]. They kept in touch with the office throughout keeping [relative] safe. [Relative] was supported by excellent carers who she knew well. This ensured that [relative] felt comfortable and secure.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Members of staff told us they felt supported by the organisation and managers, “My manager is approachable and responsive to concerns and issues, which fosters a positive work environment. This promotes teamwork, collaboration, and inclusivity.” Consistent support provided by the management team enabled staff to provide a good standard of care.
