Date of assessment 10 December to 12 December 2024.
The service is a residential care home providing support to older people, some of whom were living with dementia. The service is registered to support 63 people. There were 57 people living at the service on the day we visited. An Expert by Experience spoke to people and their relatives on the first day of our assessment. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. We found 1 breach of regulation in relation to good governance.
The service did not always assess risks specific to individual people, and risks were not always reviewed. Neither people nor their relatives had been involved in the development of their care plan or risk reviews. Risks relating to some medicines had not been assessed. Specific instructions for medication were not followed. Governance and audit systems had not identified the issues found during the inspection, nor had required actions from these been acknowledged or completed.
People were told about their rights around consent, and this was respected. People were treated with kindness, empathy and compassion and staff respected people’s privacy and dignity. The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and staff told us they enjoyed their roles. Leaders were visible within the service. Staff had received appropriate training to support them to carry out their role effectively and safely. Appropriate referrals had been made to support people to lead healthy lives. The environment and equipment were clean and well-maintained.
