Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 28 January 2025 to 26 February 2025. The service is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care to adults over 65 yrs living with dementia. This assessment was carried out in response to concerns received about insufficient staffing levels, medicine administration, poor care and the service being unrated. However, we did not identify any concerns during our assessment. There were enough staff to support people and meet their needs. Medicines were managed safely and people received them as prescribed. People were supported by kind, caring, competent and compassionate staff. People’s needs and choices had been assessed. Care provided was personalised and considered people’s preferences and wishes. People were supported to eat and drink enough to maintain a balanced diet. People’s dietary needs were met in accordance with their needs and preferences. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. The provider had effective systems in place for monitoring the quality and safety of the service provided to people.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with 17 people who lived at the home and 3 relatives, who were visiting their family members, about their experience of the care provided. We spent time seeing how people were cared for. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. During this observation, we observed people appearing relaxed, engaging in activities of their choice and being provided with assistance from staff when required. For example, during mealtime. Feedback from people and relatives was positive. People told us they felt safe and happy living at the service. People reported staff responded well to calls for assistance and felt staff understood their individual needs. One person said, “It’s lovely here, and so much better than being at home.” All people spoken with knew who to speak with if they had any concerns. They told us they had no concerns and were happy with the support provided. They said they were kept informed and were involved in their care.
