Effective
We assessed 1 quality statement in the effective key question and found good practice. The scores for this area have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection, which was inadequate. Though the assessment of these areas indicated areas of good practice since the last inspection, our rating for the key question remains inadequate.
We found staff involved patients in decisions about their care and treatment, and patient care records were now comprehensive and completed accurately. The provider had increased the number and variety of activities available throughout the week and weekend. However, the activity provision did not include many rehabilitation type activities or sensory activities located on the ward or in the sensory room.
This service scored 33 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Assessing needs
We did not look at Assessing needs during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Effective.
Delivering evidence-based care and treatment
Patients told us they discussed their care with staff and the MDT on a regular basis. Patients told us they had a copy of their care plans.
Staff we spoke to were aware of national legislation, evidence-based good practice and standards such as NICE guidelines and discussed how they followed them during their care to patients.
In the previous inspection, the provider had the following 2 breaches: The provider must ensure that people using the service have access throughout the week including the weekend to therapeutic activities which provide structure and meet their individual needs. Secondly, the provider must ensure that people’s treatment records are completed accurately so that they can be checked to ensure people are receiving safe treatment in line with best practice. We found the ward had implemented sufficient improvements to comply with the requirement notices we issued at the last inspection. Patients’ treatment records were complete and comprehensive. Patients had access throughout the week and weekend to a variety of therapeutic activities. Patients had a daily planning meeting, weekly community meeting, and sessions such as fitness, ‘grab and go’ leisure or creative boxes, psychology and a weekly snack preparation session. However, the activity provision did not include many rehabilitation type activities or sensory activities located on the ward or in the sensory room.
