Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. One person said, “They ask me first and they listen if I say I don’t want that. They’ll leave it.”

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. One relative said, “The [carers] help [relative] if they need it. Once off the bed they’ll get them to their (walking) frame. Staff will accompany them during short walks to get them moving.”

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. People spoke positively about their experiences and felt the service responded effectively in meeting their individual needs. People felt confident staff had the knowledge and skills needed and knew how to support them in a personalised way. Staff spoken with clearly understood the importance of respecting people's privacy, dignity and independence.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff members we spoke with told us they felt valued, respected and supported within their roles. Comments from staff included, “The team I am in is brilliant, fantastic, everyone gets on. We are very supportive of each other; we call each other to see if anyone needs help,” and “The staff team is really good, supportive of each other, a good team.”
