Our view of the service

Date of assessment 19 March to 27 March 2024.

Medical Imaging Partnership (MIP) provides diagnostic radiology and outpatient services to both NHS and private patients. The organisation operates from various sites. This assessment focused on the Crawley site of MIP. This location is the administrative hub for the management of mobile Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) units and ultrasound services At this site, the organisation also provides Mobile Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) in the main hospital. These services are provided from a mobile unit in an outside space. All scanners are relocatable and under 2 years old. MIP provides scanning services to children aged 13 to 18, and to adults.

This assessment was carried out following an increase in the number of concerns received by the Care Quality Commission, which were shared with the provider.

We assessed 33 quality statements from the safe, caring and well-led key questions. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last inspection.

Our overall rating of this service is good. The service had a strong vision, which was underpinned by a 5-year strategy. There was an open and honest learning culture. Staff understood their role and responsibilities regarding safeguarding patients. Patients were treated with dignity and respect. Managers were visible. The service had enough staff.

However, we found a breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe environments. Potential risks in the care environment had not been identified and action taken.
