Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This is the first overall rating of this newly registered service. At our last assessment we did not cover all parts of this key question. At this assessment, this key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. One person told us, “The staff are so kind, I couldn’t handle it if staff weren’t nice, I would speak to manager, they go above and beyond to help me here.”

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. One staff member said, “Every day we have quality moment sessions, where we have time to talk to people and about their ups and downs in life. You can see the joy in people’s faces when they are encouraged to open their hearts up.” One family member commented, “I can’t recommend this place enough, absolutely fantastic. Food is that good I want to live here myself. We are all so pleased with his care as a family. [Relative] is much better in here than they were before, [Relative] always looks clean and tidy. There are so many staff it is great. It is run so well the manager, and all the staff are fantastic.”

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.
