Caring
The service was caring and has been rated good. This meant people were treated with kindness, dignity and respect. Staff understood person-centered care and demonstrated how people were given choice and control in their lives. Staff and management knew and understood the people they supported, including their preferences, wishes, personal histories and backgrounds.

Kindness, compassion and dignity
People were supported by staff who were kind and treated them with dignity and respect. One relative told us, “The staff are good, they talk to him a lot, they have similar interests in music and films which is a good thing; they have a good balance of staff.”
Staff knew people well and understood their needs including their preferences, wishes, personal histories and backgrounds.
We did not receive any feedback from external partners in relation to staff approach.
Staff supported people in a consistent, sensitive, caring and considerate manner. Staff took their time in explaining things to people and making sure they understood what people needed.
Treating people as individuals
People were supported by staff who knew them well. Relatives told us staff provided consistency for their relative and the staff members have a good rapport with people.
Staff and management understood people’s individual needs and preferences which were reflected in their care, treatment and support.
Staff supported people on a one-to-one basis using person-centre approaches as detailed in care plans.
Processes were in place to help ensure people’s communication needs were met to enable them to engage in their care, treatment and support. Care plans contained information about people’s personal, cultural and religious needs. This helped to ensure people's individual needs and wishes were respected. The provider encouraged flexible visiting by relatives and friends.
Independence, choice and control
People’s experience confirmed staff respected their independence and they could make day to day decisions. Staff respected what people could do for themselves and supported them when needed.
Staff understood people had the right to have choice and control over how their care needs were met. One staff member told us, “I always read and follow individual care plans, I never assume people lack capacity I support the person to make their own decisions or choices.”
People were routinely engaged in activities. Staff consistently encouraged people to make choices for themselves.
Processes were in place to help ensure the care and support people received reflected their needs and their right to choose. People’s care records promoted their independence, helping to ensure people were cared for and supported in a dignified way.
Responding to people’s immediate needs

Staff told us they felt the staffing levels were sufficient enough to be able to respond to people’s needs in a timely way. The manager understood their responsibilities in ensuring people’s immediate needs were responded to.
Staff worked calmly within the home, people were supported in a timely way which enabled them to be as independent as possible.
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
Staff told us they felt supported by the management team. One staff member said, “The management are very approachable and always there if needed for anything.” Another staff member said, “I have never worked with a better pair of managers. They care so much about the service users and staff. It’s really nice to be a part of the team.”
The provider ensured staff had the skills and knowledge to carry out their role effectively. Staff completed training in relevant areas to ensure they could carry out their role safely and competently. Staff supervisions were being completed in line with the company policies and expectations.
