During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 29 January 2025. We found the practice had met regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. We identified scope for improvement in the practice systems to manage risks. Specifically, the provider should, take action to appoint a competent person, to carry out any of the preventive and protective measures, taking into account The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The practice is in Sneinton in Nottingham and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. The practice was accessed via a set of steps so it is not easily accessible to people using wheelchairs or those with pushchairs. A set of portable ramps were available and the provider had processes to refer new and existing patients who could not access the service to accessible services nearby. The practice had 1 treatment room. During the assessment we spoke with the dentist and 3 dental nurses who also shared reception duties.

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we spoke with three people who used the service. A person said, "I have known this practice for a number of years and I am always pleased with my treatment. They explain everything clearly and help me decide on what is best for me". Another person told us, 'I like coming here because the dentist explains in my own language as I am not so good with my English.'

We found that people were treated in a clean environment and arrangements were in place to ensure reusable instruments and equipment were thoroughly cleaned and sterilised. A person told us, 'The surgery is clean and tidy and they always offer me an apron and glasses to protect me when I get my treatment.'

We found that improvements were needed to the systems the provider used for gathering, recording and evaluating information about the safety of the water used in the practice.

The provider after our inspection told us that they had made the necessary improvements and introduced a system that ensured the safety of the water used in the practice. We looked at the information they sent us and found these to be satisfactory.
