We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 26 February 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place.

The practice had systems to manage risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required.

The practice is in Penkridge, Staffordshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was a stepped access into the practice with a portable ramp available if required. Car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.

The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dentists, 2 dental nurses and 2 receptionists.

During a routine inspection

We inspected Sharlyn Dental Practice on a planned announced inspection. Which meant the service knew we were coming. We informed the service three days prior to our inspection so that people's dental appointments were not disrupted by the inspection. We were supported throughout the inspection by the registered manager who is also a dentist at the service.

We saw in records that people who used the service were involved in the planning of their treatment through consultation with the dentists. People told us they had agreed to any planned treatment.

People that used the service at Sharlyn Dental Practice were happy with the quality of care being delivered. One person told us, "I used to hate the dentist but I don't mind coming here".

Staff told us they enjoyed working at Sharlyn Dental Practice. They told us they felt supported and had sufficient training to fulfil their role effectively.

We looked to see if the service was clean and working within current guidelines in relation to infection control. We found the service had systems in place to ensure that good hygiene standards were maintained.

We found that the service had several tools for monitoring the quality of the service being delivered and to work towards continuous improvement.

We found that Sharlyn Dental Practice was compliant in the five outcome areas we looked at.
