Our view of the service
We carried out this announced, on-site assessment on 5 February 2025.
We found the practice had not met all regulations.
The practice had some systems to manage risks. Improvements were required to identify and manage risks relating to medical emergency arrangements.
Improvements should also be made to the oversight and governance of sharps safety, radiation protection information and Legionella.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation, but these were not consistently followed.
The systems to obtain evidence that all staff were up-to-date with their mandatory training and completed at the appropriate level of continuing professional development for their role should be improved.
The leaders in the practice were open to feedback, took immediate appropriate action where needed, and were committed to improving systems to prevent reoccurrence of these issues.
Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Infection control procedures were in place and followed consistently.
Patients were treated with dignity and respect and could access care, support and treatment when required.
The practice is in Ilkley and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children, and NHS dental care and treatment for children.
There are steps to the front and rear of the premises and is not accessible to wheelchair users. The patient toilet was on the first floor and patients may struggle to access this. A pay and display car park was available near the practice.
The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of assessment there were 25 staff. During the assessment we spoke with 3 dentists, the patient care manager, 2 dental nurses, 2 receptionists and the practice manager.
The provider was not complying with 1 regulation. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the assessment findings below.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
They told us they were able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and that they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
Patients said they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
When they were prescribed medicines, patients felt that sufficient information was given.
Patients also felt they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
