Effective
We assessed 1 quality statement on delivering evidence-based care and treatment. Staff monitored people’s nutritional needs as required. Staff followed up-to-date policies to plan and deliver quality care according to best practice and national guidance. Patient transport record forms were completed for every journey. These were audited to monitor documentation completed on routes and in relation to the vehicle.

Delivering evidence-based care and treatment
People told us the service transported them within good timeframes, they had no concerns relating to timing of ambulance arrival or the journey. All people said they felt information was given to them in a way that considered their needs and wishes.
Staff told us they completed records audits for documentation used for transporting people. Service managers regularly reviewed these records. Staff told us they had access to water and biscuits for patients on long journeys. NHS hospitals provided any long-distance patients being transferred with a packed lunch. They stopped as needed on the journey for the comfort of the patient and staff.
Staff followed up-to-date policies to plan and deliver high quality care according to best practice and national guidance. People’s nutritional needs were considered as part of their initial assessment. Staff documented hydration and nutrition information where needed. They provided refreshments, such as water. For people on long journeys the service ask the hospital to provide a packed lunch that will meet the patients dietary needs. Patient transport record forms were completed for every journey.
