Independence, choice and control

People’s wishes and choices were respected by staff. A relatives told us, “[Love one] only has female carers. I don’t think [loved one] would have minded either gender. We are Catholics and that is respected. Some of the carers are Catholics. We e-mailed the priest, and he came and gave [loved one] sacrament for the sick.” A second relative commented, “They [staff] treat her age with respect.” A third relatives said, “The carers that we’ve had understand how to work with dementia. They handle communication with [loved ones] confusion compassionately.”

A relative told us that they were involved in formulating their loved one’s care plans and were always involved in reviews of these. They told us that their loved ones wishes for the care they wanted were listened to and integrated into their plans and were promptly changed as their needs developed.
