Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 1

People’s assessed support needs varied, as did the allocated staffing levels in place. Where people were assessed to have lower support needs, from speaking with them we identified they experienced periods of boredom and found it hard to watch other people receiving what they perceived as more attention than themselves.

Two people spoke with us about the time they spend with the onsite activity coordinator, and the positive impact this has for example they enjoyed sharing the strawberries they had grown with inspectors while we were on site.

Staff told us they tried hard to ensure each person received their allocated hours, but also providing additional emotional support when needed. Overall staff felt people were receiving positive outcomes and experiences and felt the care home grounds offered lots of opportunities to immerse people in wildlife and the countryside.

We identified variability in the level of detail recorded about activities people had participated in over the course of a day. There was also a lack of weekly planning in place for some people to ensure they knew what activities were due to happen, offering people things to look forward to.
