Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

People and their relatives felt happy with the care. A person told us “I direct what we do, it’s what I want. They support me to go for walks, to a gardening group and tai chi. If I want to change that, I can just tell them.”

Staff told us about how they supported people to remain independent and maintain their choice and control regarding care. A staff member said to us “On the system, it’s very clear, the guidance tells you how much help they need or if they are independent, and then we always ask the person.”

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Care plans were person centred and evidenced the involvement of people and their relatives.
