Safe
Care was planned and delivered in a way which was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. Risks were assessed and mitigated. Staff had completed training to develop their skills to support people safely. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Staff were employed after the appropriate recruitment checks were completed.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Learning culture
We did not look at Learning culture during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Safe.
Safe systems, pathways and transitions
We did not look at Safe systems, pathways and transitions during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Safe.
Safeguarding
People were supported from the risk of abuse and felt safe using the service. A relative told us, “We are very happy with the care being provided.”
Staff had received training in how to safeguard people from the risk of abuse. One member of staff said, “If I had a safeguarding concern, I would inform my supervisor or line manager. I would tell the local authority, and I would also tell CQC.”
Staff had received training in safeguarding, and the provider’s safeguarding procedures were discussed in staff meetings. The provider had policies in place for staff to raise safeguarding concerns and had a ‘whistle blowing’ policy to support staff in raising concerns.
Involving people to manage risks
People and their relatives were involved in planning their care needs and risks. A relative told us, “As care needs have changed, we have discussed this with staff and come up with solutions.”
Staff told us that care was planned in a person-centred way to help people achieve living as independently as possible.
When people started using the service the registered manager met with them and their relatives if appropriate, to discuss and help identify risks to them and within their environment. Risk assessments and care plans were then put in place to guide staff to mitigate these risks and support people safely.
Safe environments
We did not look at Safe environments during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Safe.
Safe and effective staffing
People were supported by a consistent staff team. One person told us, “The staff come on time, sometimes a few minutes early. The staff are all good.” A relative said, “The staff come on time, we are happy with the care being provided.”
Staff told us they knew people well and provided consistent care to them. Staff felt supported with training and supervision from the management team.
Staff had been supported to develop their skills through training and had access to nationally recognised courses. New staff received a thorough induction which included shadowing more experienced staff. The registered manager and senior staff held regular meetings to update staff and share learning. Staff were also supported with regular supervision meetings and had spot checks to monitor their performance. Appropriate checks were in place before staff started work including providing full right to work checks, references and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. DBS provide information including details about convictions and cautions held on the Police National Computer. The information helps employers make safer recruitment decisions.

We did not look at Infection prevention and control during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Safe.
Medicines optimisation
