During an assessment under our new approach

Goodcare Practice is a NHS GP practice which provides primary care services to 10806 patients from one location in Northolt, under a contract held with NHS England. Information published by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the service population group is in the third decile (3 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the service population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Goodcare Practice is registered with the Care Quality Commission under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 to provide the following regulated activities: diagnostic and screening procedures, midwifery and maternity services, surgical procedures, and treatment of disease, disorder, or injury.

We conducted an assessment between 26 and 28 November 2024. We requested evidence from the practice, carried out remote interviews with staff and remote searches of the practices’ clinical system. The assessment also included a site visit. We found the practice reviewed incidents appropriately, investigated and recorded actions taken. Medicines management reflected current and relevant best practice we found patients were monitored appropriately. We saw patients’ medicines were appropriately prescribed in line with the relevant legislation, current national guidance, or best available evidence. Patient’s needs were assessed using a range of assessment tools to ensure their needs were reflected and understood. Patients received care, and treatment that was evidence-based and in line with good practice standards. One of the partners was the lead for diabetes, they had done a lot of work with diabetic patients within the practice. As a result, patients’ diabetic management had improved and the practice was asked by the Ealing borough’s lead diabetes GP to share their knowledge and experience.

During a routine inspection

Letter from the Chief Inspector of General Practice

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Goodcare Practice on 30 August 2016. Overall the practice is rated as good.

Our key findings across all the areas we inspected were as follows:

  • There was an open and transparent approach to safety and an effective system in place for reporting and recording significant events.
  • Risks to patients were assessed and well managed.
  • Staff assessed patients’ needs and delivered care in line with current evidence based guidance. Staff had been trained to provide them with the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver effective care and treatment.
  • Patients said they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect and they were involved in their care and decisions about their treatment.
  • Information about services and how to complain was available and easy to understand. Improvements were made to the quality of care as a result of complaints and concerns.
  • Patients said they found it easy to make an appointment with a named GP and there was continuity of care, with urgent appointments available the same day.
  • The practice had good facilities and was well equipped to treat patients and meet their needs.
  • There was a clear leadership structure and staff felt supported by management. The practice proactively sought feedback from staff and patients, which it acted on.
  • The provider was aware of and complied with the requirements of the duty of candour.

The areas where the provider should make improvement are:

  • Consider ways to reduce Quality and Outcomes Framework exception reporting to bring in line with local averages.
  • Consider ways of identifying more patients who are carers.
