Responsive
Responsive – this means we looked for evidence that the provider met people’s needs.
At our last assessment we rated this key question Good. At this assessment the rating has remained Good. This meant people’s needs were met through good organisation and delivery.
At the last assessment there was a breach of the person-centred care regulation. At this assessment the provider was no longer in breach of the regulation, but more time was needed to ensure that the changes became embedded in the everyday care provided.
This service scored 71 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Person-centred Care
The provider did not always make sure people were at the centre of their care and treatment choices and they did not always work in partnership with people, to decide how to respond to any relevant changes in people’s needs.
Care Plans were not reflective of people's needs. We raised this with the provider, who was aware of the issue. They took immediate action to ensure care plans related to people’s risks and safety were reviewed. They also put systems in place to ensure people’s entire care plans would be reviewed with them and their relatives to ensure that their personal like’s and dislikes were recorded.
At times people had not received their care in a timely manner. For example, one person’s care plan had noted an issue where their catheter had not been emptied in a timely manner and this had caused issues as it was pulling. Their relative also complained on the day of assessment that this was still an ongoing issue. The interim manager promised to address the issue with staff.
Care provision, Integration and continuity
We did not look at Care provision, Integration and continuity during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Responsive.
Providing Information
We did not look at Providing Information during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Responsive.
Listening to and involving people
The provider has started to make it easy for people to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care, treatment and support. Staff had not always involved people in decisions about their care or tell them what had changed as a result. However, this was changing. The provider had implemented regular resident, relative and staff meetings to discuss changes in the home and any concerns they had.
Equity in access
The provider made sure that people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.
People were supported to access services when needed. The interim manager told us they were building up good relationships with other healthcare professionals in the NHS. This working relationship enabled people to receive accessible support and treatment. For example, they had worked with the GP to enable people to have easier access to them . This included, a GP from the local surgery visiting the home once a week to review people’s needs.
Equity in experiences and outcomes
Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.
People and their relatives were given choices about how they lived their lives. Relatives told us that their family member was given choices including what they wear and eat. They said that staff follow their family member’s routines.
Staff told us there was equity in experiences with good outcomes for people. For example, the cook said dietary requirements could be catered for based upon need, and a person's chosen wishes.
Planning for the future
We did not look at Planning for the future during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Responsive.
