Our view of the service
Beacon House is a residential care home. They provide support for up to 5 people who may have a learning disability or a diagnosis of autism. At the time of our assessment 4 people were using the service. The accommodation is in the community with good links to nearby parks, shops and other community facilities for people to access. We carried out our on-site assessment on the 12 and 14 February 2025. Off site assessment activity started on the 11 February and finished on 24 February 2025. This assessment was completed to follow up on the last assessment and to see if improvements had been made. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment, staffing and need to consent to care and treatment. Improvements were found at this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found the service was working within these principles.
People's experience of this service
We observed people were happy living at the service and appeared relaxed and comfortable in the presence of staff. One person told us, “I am happy here, occasionally I help with cleaning and meals. I prefer not to go out until the weather gets better.” A relative told us, “[person name] is absolutely happy and fine living at the service.”
To gain people’s feedback where people could not talk and engage with us, we spent time with them. We used observation and the quality of life tool to measure how well people were being supported at the service. We also gained feedback from family members and independent health professionals.
