Governance, management and sustainability
The practice had a governance system including policies and procedures which were accessible to staff and reviewed on a regular basis. Following inspection we recommended that the provider improved the practice's risk management systems for monitoring and mitigating the various risks arising from the carrying on of the regulated activities. Specifically, for the management of electrical safety, radiography, audits of patient dental records, labelling of medicines and infection control. Systems and processes were largely embedded, and the assessment did not highlight significant issues or omissions. The areas where improvements should be made were acted on immediately. The provider was open and responsive to feedback provided. Staff understood the importance of protecting patients’ personal information. Staff password protected patients’ electronic care records and paper records were stored securely and complied with General Data Protection Regulations. There were effective processes for undertaking audits, identifying and managing risks, investigating incidents and accidents, and for receiving and acting on safety alerts. Concerns and complaints were responded to appropriately, and outcomes were discussed to share learning and for improvement. Staff had clear responsibilities and systems of accountability to support good governance. We highlighted some areas where governance could be improved. Staff feedback was encouraged and they said these were listened to and acted upon, where appropriate. Feedback from patients, the public and external partners was collected and responded to.
