Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

Most people and relatives felt they or their family member received care that met their individualised needs.

A small number of people did raise a concern that some staff spoke to each other in their first (non-English) language. Some told us they had raised this with the staff, and they had stopped doing this.

Staff could explain how they provided care in a way that focused on the individual’s needs. This included people’s cultural and religious needs, dietary requirements and people’s ability to wash themselves.

Staff told us they had regular calls which enabled them to provide consistent care and support to people as they understood people’s individual needs.

People’s care records took account of their individual needs and preferences, were understood by staff, and reflected their required care and support.

Care records also included people’s personal, cultural, social, and religious needs. People’s protected equality characteristics such as age, gender and sexual orientation were not seen as barriers to care. The provider encouraged and expected staff to care for people’s individual needs.
