Kindness, compassion and dignity
People said that they felt uncomfortable with staff doing their observations and looking at them but not engaging with them.
Staff did not always show dignity or respect to people. Staff meeting minutes stated: ‘person has been asking for a haircut as it is starting to affect their personal hygiene, some staff are reluctant to take them, to the barbers due to issues with their mobility (wheelchair) and booking wheelchair accessible transportation’. This demonstrated a lack of dignity and respect to the person. Staff did not engage well with people at mealtime. They sat or stood in the dining room without engaging with people. This did not respect people’s dignity and was not compassionate. The provider told us that they planned to provide meals for staff so staff could eat with people and improve this experience.
