Caring
Staff were always available to support patients within the health-based place of safety suites. We found patient care and treatment records were personalised and included details of the patients’ potential triggers, coping strategies and the patients’ individual requirements from staff to support them. Managers attended clinical escalation meetings to ensure they had oversight of patient needs and demands on the service. Staff were discreet when speaking to patients and arranged home visits to support patients if required.

Responding to people’s immediate needs
We spoke with 3 patients being cared for within the 2 health-based places of safety (136 suites), who told us staff were always available, and they felt safe.
Staff told us the team worked with patients to identify what support they needed in a crisis. This was then recorded in a crisis care plan within the patients care and treatment record. Managers told us they attended the clinical escalation meetings to discuss individual management plans where necessary to ensure the patients were managed within the most appropriate setting.
We saw staff engaging in telephone appointments with patients, these were discreet and respectful. We saw staff arranging for an urgent home visit to a patient who was experiencing difficulties.
