Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
The provider did not have a registered manager in post. The current home manager had managed the home since August 2023. They had applied to CQC to become the registered manager for the home. The home manager told us they received regular support from the company directors when they visited each week to monitor the service. The home manager was supported by a deputy manager. They told us the deputy manager had worked at the home for many years and they worked very well together. Staff were positive about how the service was run and about the support they received from the home manager and deputy manager. One member of staff commented, “I am happy work here, the managers are always very helpful, friendly and understanding and teamwork is good.” Another staff member told us they had just received a Carer of the month Oscar award for outstanding performance in the duty of care. People using the service, their relatives and managers were involved in deciding which staff deserved the award. An officer from the local authority that commissions services from the provider told us the home manager was doing a good job and they had a positive influence on the service. The home manager was responsive and not afraid to ask for support.
The home manager told us they were well supported by the directors. They showed us records of their 3 monthly supervisions with the providers quality assurance director. They told us any training they asked for was agreed and the directors were always available to them when they needed them. The home manager told us they were currently completing a management course. They and the deputy manager had recently completed a management and leadership course. There were regular staff meetings in place to support and guide staff with best practice. Staff told us they were able to express their views at these meetings and they felt they were listened to. Management support was available for staff when they needed it. A staff member told us, “There is a 24 hour on-call number where we can contact managers if we need any advice or support from them.” We sat in on the services 11 at 11 meeting. This was attended by the home manager and deputy manager, the nurse in charge, a team leader, the maintenance man and activities coordinator. Issues discussed included people’s dietary needs, planned activities, housekeeping, maintenance issues and the resident of the days care plan updates. The home manager discussed the findings from their daily walk around and reported that personal protective equipment (PPE) stations were checked and there were no issues. The home manager also reported that 10 staff were doing St Christopher's training the following day and there was a possible new admission to the service the following Friday.
