Our view of the service
An assessment has been undertaken of a specialist service used by people with a learning disability and/or autistic people. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people; and providers must have regard to it.’ Our House is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care to 4 people with learning disabilities at the time of the inspection. The service can support up to 5 people.
People's experience of this service
The service was able to fully demonstrate how they were meeting the underpinning principles of Right support, Right care and Right culture. Right Support: There was a positive relationship between people and staff who supported them. Risks to people’s individual health and wellbeing were identified and care was planned to minimise the risks. Staff had a good understanding of people’s needs, choices and preferences, and were aware of how to meet people’s individual needs as they changed. People were cared for and supported by staff who had relevant training and skills. Right Care: People received care and support that met their needs and took account of their preferences and personal circumstances. The provider worked well with other health and social care professionals to support people using the service. There were enough staff to meet people’s care and support needs. Right Culture: People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible; the policies and systems in the service did support this practice. Effective systems were in place to quality assure the services provided, manage risks and drive improvement. People’s safety was promoted by staff who had been trained to recognise and respond effectively to the risks of abuse. People were supported by staff who had received appropriate training and support.
