Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

People told us they felt able to speak up. One person told us, “My son, daughter and grandchildren can visit when they like, there are no restrictions.” A relative told us, “There are no restrictions, I generally arrive about 10 am and stay all day, they are all very good here.”

The registered manager described how they promoted equity in experience and outcomes regardless of the person’s physical, mental or emotional needs. They told us about a person who came to the service for rehab which resulted in a positive outcome for the person. Due to the support the service provided, the person was able to return home. This person told us about the great support from the staff and told us “It was a home from home”, they also told us how they would recommend the service and would return if they needed 24/7 care.

People were supported to maintain relationships with people who were important to them. The service allowed visitors to visit people living in the service when they wanted. We observed this happening during our site visit. Staff had undertaken training in understanding diversity to provide them with guidance on protected characteristics such as disability, cultural needs or needs relating to sexuality.
