People and relatives were involved in developing care plans. A relative commented, “I am always consulted. They will ring if they need to speak to me.”

Staff understood people’s needs well. One staff member commented, “Due to the regular staff team, a great bond has developed. [Person] is showing more emotion and has come out of their shell.”

People’s needs were assessed and continually reviewed to check their care reflected their individual needs and preferences. People’s preferences were discussed and included in person-centred care plans.

Staff told us they provided information, appropriate to each person, to help them make choices and decisions. A staff member said, “We explain what is happening all the time.”

Care plans provided staff with information about the support each person needed to make choices and decisions. Where people lacked capacity to make decisions, the provider followed the MCA to ensure these were made in people’s best interests.
