Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care and wellbeing. Staff told us, “Our clients have a choice so if they don’t want something at a particular time we don’t force them. They have their rights.” People felt involved in their care. They felt they were asked their opinion and staff listened to and respected their choices. They said, “I’ve got a lady coming this week from Exodus to talk about my care, they come about every six months.” “They ask if I want to do something.” “They ask me what I want them to do.” Staff supported people to remain as independent as possible. A care worker said, “I am there to support them, not do it for them.” One person told us, “They are there for me. They let me do what I can, I never feel they are stopping me doing anything.”
