Listening to and involving people

Score: 3

The provider made it easy for people to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care and support. A complaints process was in place and we saw individual complaints were listened to and investigated. On the whole people felt timely action was taken to respond to their concerns and ensure corrective action was taken. People told us, “I haven’t really done a complaint. I’ve phoned up the office if they are late and they are fine.” “One girl wasn’t thorough; she was spoken to and she is better now.” “If I had an issue I would speak to the care worker first, she has been here a year and I’ve not had one issue with her.”

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care and support in response to this. People felt free from discrimination and that their beliefs and preferences were respected. People’s comments included, “They make me feel comfortable.” “We don’t have pork in the house, she always respects that.” “They are open and non-judgemental.” Staff told us they were respectful of people’s differences. One staff member said, “Everyone is different, they are an individual. Everyone has their own beliefs and choices. I try to understand their spiritual beliefs and support their spiritual belief.”
