Our view of the service

Age UK Bournemouth is based in Winton and is registered to provide a foot care service to people in their own homes. This includes simple toe nail cutting, information on foot hygiene and liaison service to the NHS chiropody service. At the time of the inspection there were 143 people receiving foot care from the service. The inspection took place on 13 February 2025. People were protected from avoidable harm. Staff were knowledgeable regarding recognising and reporting potential abuse. Policies and procedures were in place to help keep people safe from abuse. Risks to people were identified, assessed and reviewed which enabled staff to support people safely and effectively with their foot care. Sufficient levels of staff had been recruited safely and had the necessary skills, experience and training to support people. People felt listened to and staff told us they were supported in their roles. Staff knew people well, and treated people with kindness and dignity and ensured people were given choice in how they received their foot care and support. Staff and people were treated equally and people were provided with individualised, person centred support to ensure they experienced positive outcomes.

People's experience of this service

People told us they felt safe with the care and support provided by Age UK Bournemouth. People received their foot care from a small regular team of staff who provided consistency and knew people well. One person told us, “I’ve used them for a couple of years now and it works for me.” People told us the staff were friendly, arrived on time and were well trained. People were pleased with the service they received and told us they were treated with respect and dignity. People said staff always checked their understanding and explained what they were going to do before providing foot care. People said the service was well managed and provided them with safe, effective foot care. One person told us, “I can’t cut my nails myself anymore, the service is brilliant.”
