Effective
We assessed a limited number of quality statements in the effective key question and found areas of good practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection, which was good. Though the assessment of these areas indicated areas of good practice since the last inspection, our rating for the key question remains good. People were involved in the creation and review of their care plan. People’s needs were assessed before they moved into the home. People care plans identified how the person could be supported to make decisions and included information on if the person had a do not attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation (DNACPR) decision in place.

Assessing needs
People and relatives confirmed they were involved in the development and review of the care plan and risk assessment.
Staff stated they read people’s care plan and risk assessment monthly and when there had been a change in a person’s support needs identified.
People’s care and support needs were identified before the person moved into the People’s care plans identified if the person home. An assessment of needs was completed to enable the registered manager to determine if the person’s support needs could be met. An initial care plan was developed when the person moved into the home with a final care plan completed within the first 6 weeks. Care plans were reviewed every year or earlier if there was a change in needs.

Consent to care and treatment
People and their relatives were involved in the development and review of their care plan and risk assessments.
Staff confirmed they supported people to make choices about their daily lives and the support they received. They also supported people who were unable to always make decisions about their care.
Care plans identified if the person could make decisions about their care and support. People’s care plans also indicated if the person had a do not attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation (DNACPR) decision in place.
